"Hello Fred: Just wanted to send you a note thanking you for yesterday. My mom, who is from Scotland said you were the best bagpiper she had ever heard!
Thanks again,
Shirley" 10/2011.
Bagpiping for Funerals, Memorials, and Graveside Services
Clan pipers have played for the funerals and burials of chieftains and other dignitaries for centuries. Pipers have also traditionally provided music for
military and state funerals. Scots and Irish immigrants established the bagpipe as a funeral instrument for law enforcement and firefighter services in the United States.
The sound of the highland bagpipe is very evocative. It brings emotion to the surface quickly. Listeners have often remarked that it brought thoughts of their ancestors,
their heritage, and that they felt a strong connection with the past.
The bagpipe can be used in a funeral, memorial or graveside service, wake, or celebration of life to set a variety of moods: mournful, reverant, respectful, resolute, dignified,
and even hopeful or optimistic.
Some great bagpipe tunes useful for services are:
-Amazing Grace
-The Flowers of the Forest
-Mist Covered Mountains
-Skye Boat Song
-Lochanside
-Highland Cathedral
-The Rowan Tree
-The Green Hills of Tyrol
-Scotland the Brave
-The Dawning of the Day
Three time Western U.S. Bagpipe Champion Fred Payne is available to perform for your friend or loved one's funeral,
memorial service, graveside service, wake, or celebration of life.
